Chazan Shimon Farkas & Sons
Farkas was first posted as cantor at the Orthodox Shaarei Shomayim synagogue in 1967 for the High Holidays in Windsor, Ontario.
Farkas led High Holiday services for an Orthodox congregation in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1969 and 1970. During that time, while attending Yeshiva University in New York, he enrolled as an exchange student at Bar Ilan University in Israel. In Israel, he met Veronica Weisz, who was studying at Machon Gold in Jerusalem. The two were married and relocated to her hometown in Sydney, Australia.
Both sons, Dov and Chaim have followed in their father’s footsteps with performances and recordings with their father and on their own.
Dov Farkas served as Cantor of the South Head Synagogue in Sydney for eight years, after which he served as Cantor of the Chabad House of Caulfield – 770 in Melbourne for five years. In 2008, Dov was appointed Chief Cantor of the Caulfield Hebrew Congregation in Melbourne, Australia. Chaim Farkas serves as President of the Ichud Shivat Tzion congregation in Tel Aviv, and leads occasional services at Ichud Shivat Tzion.

Recommended Tours: Split – The largest city in Dalmatia
The vibrant and bustling city of Split is the largest in the Dalmatia region, one of four historical districts spread throughout Croatia. Split enjoy a prime position on the Dalmatia coast with a beautiful mountain backdrop and is popular with locals and tourists alike for its atmospheric restaurants, bars and shops.
There is no doubt that the main attraction in Split is Diocletian’s Palace. This ancient palace, built for the Roman emperor of the same name, takes up most of the waterfront of Split’s old town. It is the largest archaeological site on the Adriatic coast and is the perfect place to visit for anyone who is looking to take in some history on their holiday.
As well as the historical sites that beg to be explored, there are also plenty of sandy beaches with crystal clear waters for you to enjoy. Bacvise beach can be reached in approximately 10 minutes on foot from the city centre, and the pebbled Trstenik beach is also very popular.
Along with the city of Split, the Riviera is also made up of lots of small yet charming villages and towns.
These localities offer more peace and quiet but are still in close proximity to the main city.
Podstrana is approximately 7km from Split and is made up of 5 small villages.
Solin is also just 8km outside of Split and here is where the River Jadro meets the Adriatic sea.
The river is surrouneded by lots of greenery and is a great place to go walking.
Krka National Park
Krka National Park is home to some of the most beautiful sights. The park surrounds the Krka river and the main attraction is the Skradinski Buk waterfall. The waterfall is made up of lots of cascades one after each other. At the bottom of the waterfall is a natural pool where you can swim. The park has 7 waterfalls in total. You can buy tickets for this park online or at the entrance. The tickets include a boat trip through the park (although the boat trip does not operate from November to March). The park is approximately an hour outside of Split.
Marjan Forest Park
This national park is a great escape from the city of Split. It is home to Marjan Hill which many people choose to visit in order to see the beautiful views of Split and the Adriatic sea. The park has trails for hiking and biking. Bikes are available for rent at the park. Alternatively, there is a tourist train which will take you to the top if you do not wish to walk/bike.
Split – jewish heritage, synagogue, museum .
The city of Split has a long history of Jewish presence, dating back to the seventh century after nearby Salona (now Solin) was destroyed by the Avars, forcing a community that had been in existence there since the third century a.d. to flee and find protection within Diocletian’s fortified palace. Only a few menorahs inscribed on stone blocks of Diocletian’s Palace testify to the early presence of Jews in Split.
Diocletian’s Palace
Located in the city centre of Split, Diocletian’s palace is one of the most impressive Roman ruins. The palace used to be home to Diocletian who was once a Roman emperor. It was built when Diocletian retired as he wanted to return to his place of birth; Salona which is near to Split. The ancient ruins are now part of Split’s old town and shops, restaurants and bars can be found in the old buildings. It has become the heart of the city.
The Dalmatian Coast
Dalmatian Coast Of Croatia’s 3,600 miles of glimmering coastline, the most famous (and touristed) stretch is its southernmost region: the Dalmatian Coast.
Paralleling it are the rugged Dinaric Alps, whose geology helps make for remarkably clear seawater and hundreds of craggy islands (the most appealing are Hvar and Korčula).
Here you’ll find Croatia’s top tourist town, Dubrovnik, and the big city of Split, with its impressive Roman ruins.
