Where the Atlantic slips quietly into a lagoon of sandbanks and salt pans, the Real Marina Hotel & Spa looks out over the Ria Formosa — one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal. Every room and suite opens onto a balcony, most of them facing the Ria Formosa and the marina. The hotel is compact enough to feel intimate and complete enough to keep a family occupied all week — an outdoor pool, a spa of a thousand square metres, two restaurants, and boats leaving from the quay for the deserted islands.
All rooms and suites are air-conditioned, with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen television. The contemporary interiors are the work of Graça Viterbo, one of Portugal's best-known decorators.
A hundred metres away, the Real Marina Residence adds twenty apartments in one, two and three bedrooms — living room, balcony and a rooftop pool reserved for residents. Meals are taken at the hotel with the rest of the program.
Two restaurants serve the program, with full board and three meals a day, prepared to a gourmet Glatt Kosher standard — no kitniot, no gebrokts. Generous buffets, a first-class pastry chef, and a lobby bar open from eight in the morning to midnight. Children and babies are served ahead of the adult sittings, and lunch boxes are prepared for those travelling out during Chol Hamoed.

Good to know: a swimming cap is compulsory in both the outdoor pool and the spa's indoor pool — worth packing one for each member of the family.
On the marina of Olhão, at the edge of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The fishermen's quarter and its morning market begin a short walk away, and boats leave from the quay for the deserted islands of Armona, Culatra and Fuseta.
